The Broken Engine

You buy organic kale. You drink $10 green juices. You take probiotics. Yet, you are still bloated. You are still tired. The problem isn’t the fuel. It’s the engine.

In Ayurveda, this engine is called Agni, which is the root of your Ayurvedic metabolism. If your Agni is strong, you can digest a pizza without a problem. If your Agni is weak, even a salad will turn into poison in your gut.

The 4 Types of Fire

Most people don’t have a weight problem. They have an Ayurvedic metabolism problem. Which engine are you running?

1. Vishama Agni (The Variable Fire)

  • The Feeling: One day you are starving, the next you have no appetite. You get bloated easily.

  • The Cause: Stress, anxiety, and irregular eating times (Vata imbalance).

  • The Fix: Routine. Eat at the exact same time every day. Warm, oily foods only.

2. Tikshna Agni (The Raging Fire)

  • The Feeling: You are “hangry.” You have intense hunger, acidity, and heartburn. You can eat huge meals but never gain weight.

  • The Cause: Intensity, anger, and spicy foods (Pitta imbalance).

  • The Fix: Cooling. Aloe vera juice, bitter greens, and no chili.

3. Manda Agni (The Slow Fire)

  • The Feeling: You eat a small sandwich and feel full for 8 hours. You gain weight just looking at food. You feel heavy and lethargic.

  • The Cause: Emotional eating, sleeping too much, cold foods (Kapha imbalance).

  • The Fix: Stimulation. Ginger tea, fasting, and spicy foods.

4. Sama Agni (The Balanced Fire)

  • The Feeling: You get hungry at noon. You digest everything. You have steady energy and clear skin.

  • The Goal: This is health.

How to Fix Your Fire (Today)

You don’t need a doctor to reset your Ayurvedic metabolism. You just need to follow the Golden Rule of Digestion:

Do not put wet wood on a fire.

  1. Stop Snacking: Let the fire burn down to ash (hunger) before adding more logs (food). Gap your meals by 4 hours.

  2. Drink Warm Water: Ice water puts the fire out. Warm water kindles it.

  3. Eat Your Biggest Meal at Noon: Your Agni is strongest when the sun is highest.
